OS&Y Rising Stem Gate Valve
The OS&Y (Outside Screw and Yoke) rising
stem gate valve is a type of linear motion valve
used to start, regulate, and stop fluid flow in a
piping systerm It consists of a cast iron body, a
rising stem that moves up and down to open and
close the flowway, a handwheel, and a threaded
bonnet that provides access to internal
components.
Description
The OS&Y (Outside Screw and Yoke) rising stem gate valve is a versatile linear motion valve designed for flow regulation in
industrial piping systems. It consists of a rugged cast iron body and bonnet, an internal gate disc, threaded rising stem, and
handwheel operator.
The gate disc is the flow control element. It slides up and down within the valve body, perpendicular to the flow path. When
lowered fully into the seat, the gate provides drip-tight shutoff, stopping fluid flow through the valve. Raising the disc opens the
flow way to allow fluid passage.
The gate is actuated by the threaded rising stem, which connects the disc solidly to the handwheel on top- Turning the
handwheel raises and lowers the stem in a smooth, precise motion to throttle flow with control. The stem threads into the
bonnet, providing a robust seal against pressure and preventing exposure of the stem to corrosive media.
OS&Y valves are ruggedly constructed for strength, durability and long service life. The cast iron body and bonnet resists
wear, pressure surges, vibrations, and high temperatures. The rising stem design enables tight sealing and prevents stem
exposure to protect against corrosion. The threaded bonnet provides easy access to internal components for inspection,
cleaning and part replacement.
With their superior flow control abilities, OS&Y rising stem gate valves are well-suited for isolation, throttling, and diversion
duties in water, steam, oil, gas, chemical, and general industrial piping applications.
